The defence system of the Republic of San Marino has always been voluntary from its own population.

In need, people chosen and trained, formed several groups named “Cerne” of 10 people each.

The sound of the bell from the First Tower and a fire at the top of the mountain were an alarm.

In peaceful times the members of these “Cerne” lived pacifically in the Republic, and they were farmers, shepherds and tradesmen.

As a memory of the past for those people who defended the Republic…the “Cerna dei Lunghi Archi” was born.

The Company is generally composed by archers, ladies-in-waiting, fighters, drummers and musicians, almost 50 people.

This Group has appeared at the Paris fair, at the Imola’s Grand Prix of Formula 1 in the 2003, on the Amalfi coast and in other several squares. They have also taken part in documentaries and television programs on Rai 3 and Marco Polo on SKY TV.

The Company is an active part of the Medieval Days of San Marino.
